The attack occurred in the Baisaran area near Pahalgam in southern Kashmir, resulting in the death of 27 people and leaving many others injured. Most of the victims were reportedly non-local tourists.
The incident has shocked India, prompting calls for swift action. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Srinagar soon to oversee the response and review security measures.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly assault on innocent civilians,” and urged the Home Minister to take swift and decisive action.
In response, security forces have launched large-scale operations in nearby forested areas. High-ranking officials are already on site to manage the situation.
The attack has triggered widespread condemnation and cast a heavy shadow over Kashmir’s tourism industry, which had recently been experiencing a revival.
Notably, local Kashmiri Muslims rushed to help the injured tourists, transporting them to hospitals for immediate treatment. This humanitarian response has been widely praised as a reflection of the compassion and solidarity of the Kashmiri people.
